To create an even more unique listening experience, it was only natural for Focal and DS teams to collaborate once again. By developing the Electra 3D by Focal® system for the first time in DS N°8, Focal brings the unmatched immersion of 3D sound.


From speaker placement to interior structure and exclusive technologies, every detail has been meticulously crafted to deliver an in-car experience elevated by Focal sound. DS N°8 also benefits from benchmark acoustic insulation, further enhancing sound purity.

Thanks to their acoustic expertise, the engineers have mastered the challenges of in-car listening, designing a system perfectly tailored to the vehicle’s architecture for a truly immersive experience.

PERSONALIZATION AND LISTENING COMFORT

The hi-fi system has been designed to offer the driver and all passengers a personalized experience and total comfort. Two listening modes are available: "All Passengers," a stereo mode optimized for each passenger, and "Front Optimised," an immersive experience that enhances the stereo soundstage in both width and depth for the front seats. Additional settings include the 3D sound intensity levels (Light, Immersive, Intense) to elevate the soundstage, as well as adjustments for the subwoofers and surround speakers.

ELECTRA 3D BY FOCAL® IN DETAIL


The hi-fi system features 14 loudspeakers with exclusive technologies:


  • 1 Polyglass midrange center speaker (30 W) with high excursion, delivering voices with remarkable clarity, significantly enhancing the sound image.


  • 4 inverted dome tweeters (4 x 15 W) made of aluminum/magnesium, a technology that provides extremely fine treble, controlled directivity, and low distortion.


  • 2 TAM 3D tweeters (2 x 15 W) with extended response, offering unparalleled immersion and great versatility of use.


  • 2 surround speakers (2 x 20 W) that amplify emotions and sensations.


  • 2 high-excursion woofers in the front doors and 2 compact woofers in the rear doors. Their Polyglass membranes deliver an exemplary frequency response in terms of linearity.


  • A compact elliptical subwoofer (3 x 50 W) positioned in the trunk, integrating Power Flower™ technology, ensuring stable and powerful bass.


  • 690 watts of amplification using boosted Class D technology, combining high power/consumption efficiency, very low distortion, and low energy consumption.


FOCAL TECHNOLOGIES


TAM 3D TWEETER


For an enveloping and immersive experience, the TAM 3D tweeter has been developed. Capable of reproducing a wide frequency range (from 800 Hz to 20 kHz), it delivers remarkable performance, particularly with its exceptional low-end response, considering its compact size.


Soundstage elevation, optimized immersion, and versatility are achieved through a range of settings – Light, Immersive, Intense – that define this high-frequency speaker.


HIGH EXCURSION MIDRANGE


Ideal for reproducing the human voice, enhancing and significantly improving the sound image, this midrange speaker has been designed to operate from 200 Hz, fully utilizing the 30 watts of available power. Its exceptionally high membrane excursion for a speaker of this size, combined with a neodymium motor, ensures remarkable stability and acoustic power.


POLYGLASS MEMBRANE


This exclusive Focal technology is used in the 63.5 mm central speaker positioned on the dashboard, as well as in the 4 x 152 mm woofers placed in the vehicle doors.


By applying fine glass microspheres to a cellulose pulp cone, the Polyglass membrane combines the excellent damping properties of paper with the rigidity of glass.



A perfect balance of mass/rigidity/damping for an exemplary frequency response curve, delivering high-definition sound reproduction.


POWER FLOWER™


The system features a 20 cm Power Flower™ subwoofer positioned within the vehicle's chassis structure, behind the side trim of the trunk.


Directly inherited from the technologies of the iconic Utopia loudspeakers, the Power Flower™ replaces the conventional ferrite typically used in speakers and generates a powerful magnetic field.


The result: a stable and clean bass reproduction, even at extreme sound pressure levels.



INVERTED DOME TWEETERS


The system is equipped with four aluminum inverted dome tweeters, positioned in the rear-view mirror and rear door panels.


This technology, patented by Focal for over 35 years, ensures precise and detailed treble reproduction thanks to its omnidirectional diffusion and lightweight design.


The Poron surround suspension, derived from the tweeters of the iconic Utopia line, is exceptionally light for enhanced sensitivity. Moreover, its flexibility allows the speakers to perform at lower frequencies. Positioned beneath the aluminum dome, it does not interfere with the emitted signal, eliminating distortion. The inverted dome shape provides controlled directivity.
